Starting over comes with its challenges, whether leaving a less-than-ideal situation for a better one or stepping down from a "better" place.
I must admit that the latter is more painful- because who doesn't love comfort and stability? Yet, some painful endings are new beginnings in disguise. Beautiful new beginnings.
I've come to understand over time that sometimes the universe sabotages what we hold on to tightly when it's not good for us, so it can present us with something better. If it doesn't force us out, we may never leave. It's painful when it does, but it's often for the best.
One of the things we fail to appreciate or even fully understand as humans is our natural, inbuilt ability to adapt.
Are you sure you really can't do without that thing or that person?
One of the worries of a new immigrant is often how they'll fit into the culture and way of life of their new destination. But give them a few years, and you may assume they've lived there since birth.
The fear that holds us back from starting over will imprison us and deny us so many beautiful things. We worry that we've already sunk in time and resources, so by leaving and starting again, we feel like we’ve wasted everything. But the truth is, time would have passed anyway. Since it's not worth it, it's best to leave and do something better—so you won’t regret the present later in the future.
We often ask: "What if things don’t work out?" But, well- what if they work out even better than you had hoped? If you don’t take the risk, you may never know.
Ease into the new phase, trust the process, you’ll be okay.
Shalom, dear one.
